The start of the new year is a great time to refresh your look and get healthier, more gorgeous hair for all during the year! Here are five easy tips to update your hairstyle, hair color, and hair care routine.
1. Shear Style
Get a fresh start by changing up your hairstyle! Nothing says “new you” like a fresh cut. Our stylists will work with you on finding the perfect cut to flatter your hair’s texture, color and your face shape. Here are a few simple tips to point you in the right direction:
– Layers really help curls bounce and give great volume.
– If you have long hair and don’t want to lose length, adding long layers will add movement and body.
– Don’t be scared to try something dramatic if you want it. Set the tone for an exciting new year!
2. Get Radiant Color
Speaking of tone, you can make a bold move by changing your hair color! Whether you decide to cover up your grays for the first time, have been coloring your hair a specific color for a long time, or want an alternative for salons dyes by going organic…our stylists are here to help you choose the most flattering shade based on your hair and natural style.
3. Here Comes the Sun
It’s easy to forget in the cold weather, but the sun shines all year round. Be sure to use styling products with UV protection to keep your hair looking and feeling its best, especially if you color your hair. The sun does more damage than you’d think, leading to premature fading and damage. Using protective products designed by hair color experts will help you lock in color, moisture, and shine.
4. Chill Out
Weather changes can influence your hair’s health, especially the cold, dry winter air! For the next couple months, use a deep conditioning mask at least once a month. This will help lock in moisture and keep your hair lustrous during the drab months.
5. Cleanse with Care
Did you know that shampooing every day can damage your hair? That’s because it constantly removes natural oils, causing hair to be more fragile and dry, which can then lead to breakage. Now is the time to see if you should break the daily wash cycle.
If your hair is very fine, you exercise daily or tend to use a lot of product, you may still want to shampoo daily. Look for a gentle, sulfate-free shampoo to lessen the chance of breakage. You could also try dry shampoo to buy an extra day between washing.
If your hair is thick and/or curly, shampooing every 2-3 days is plenty! These textures tend to soak up their natural oils more, so it’s not as noticeable if you go a few extra days without a shampoo. In fact, it’s a natural moisturizer. You can try combing the oil from your roots and scalp down the length of your hair to get the benefits on those dryer ends.
Most importantly, do what feels right for you. If your hair looks or feels too oily, wash it! Stock up on healthier hair care that will take care of your hair at your own pace. You are now set up for a year of great hair!
